Life Eternal

From what vast I had come
Again to that return,
Leave creed my cast my home
Behold my body burn.

Life was a convention-
A troubled mob of views
Rather than conviction
And faith - like a tale, like news.

Now Lo! I'm going, have gone
Ne'er again to return,
(Not this face nor this bone)
All my wishes adjourn...

O, I become, see, air,
No! more ineffable
And unsullied and fair,
All pervasive, stable.

Only my glowing gains
God-wards Go to realms
Where light alone reigns,
A glimmering brilliance calms.

And all that I had been:
A father, son, some kin,
And all that I had seen
Is as good as unseen.

Yet, footprints you I leave
On sands where I'd tread
I say, do not bereave,
I'm eternal, not dead.
